- 1/2 pound Wilders ground pork
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh parsley
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Olive oil, for greasing baking sheet
For the Tomato Sauce (optional)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
-
Lightly grease a baking sheet with olive oil and set aside.
-
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, minced garlic, beaten egg, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated.
-
Using your hands, roll the meat mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
-
Place the formed meatballs on the prepared baking sheet, evenly spaced apart.
-
Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are cooked through and golden brown on the outside.
-
While the meatballs are baking, prepare the tomato sauce if desired.
-
In a skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
-
Add the crushed tomatoes, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper to the skillet with the onions and garlic. Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the flavors have melded together and the sauce has thickened slightly.
-
Once the meatballs are cooked through, remove them from the oven and add them to the skillet with the tomato sauce, gently stirring to coat the meatballs evenly.
-
Serve the meatballs hot, either on their own or over cooked pasta, rice, or with toasted bread for dipping. Garnish with additional grated Parmesan cheese and chopped parsley, if desired, and enjoy!
